Cleaning Down Products

You don’t want to dry clean down products, but you can put them in a washing machine if necessary. But avoid ‘agitator’ machines as they can cause the down to bunch up.

You can even take your comforter to a commercial Laundromat to ensure uniform washing and rinsing, since the ones in most homes are usually too small.

When washing the comforter make sure to use cold water and a mild detergent, and always rinse thoroughly. If proper rinsing doesn’t occur there can be leftover residue that can lead to the breakdown of the material.

Make sure to squeeze out excess water, but you don’t want to wring the material. If you notice a strong odor when your comforter is wet, that is normal, but it will disappear once it is dry.

Dry your items on a low setting and put two or three tennis balls in with them, or you can even use clean sneakers. Putting those items in with your down products, helps to move the fill around and keep it fluffy. This may take awhile so you can even throw in some dry towels to speed up the process by absorbing the extra moisture.
